The PII sandbox is a way for firms or sole traders to practise with professional indemnity insurance from insurers who are not on IPReg’s list of participating insurers (PAMIA and Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty SE). Full guidance can be found here.
A firm or a sole trader may wish to enter the sandbox for a variety of reasons. Perhaps the structure of the organisation and number of non-attorney owners or directors makes them ineligible or the cost of a policy with a participating insurer is prohibitive. The sandbox will allow the regulated person to practise, backed by PII that does not meet IPReg’s minimum terms and conditions but that would otherwise safeguard the clients of the regulated person with no reduction in protection.
Firms and sole traders who might be interested in applying for the sandbox should read IPReg’s guidance for further information about what is required. You may contact us before submitting an application if you would like to discuss your particular circumstances.
The waiver application can be accessed here (you must be logged into your account) or via the regulated person's IPReg account.
