Nick is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales with substantial experience in business, covering mergers and acquisitions, company and asset valuations, audit and assurance services, corporate governance, forensic investigations and expert determinations. He has recently retired as a partner at BDO LLP.
Organisations he has advised, both in the UK and internationally, include Del Monte, HM Treasury, Whole Foods Inc, Taj Hotels and the United Nations through to smaller investment and technology businesses including start ups and activities in the not-for-profit and charitable sectors (such as London Metal Exchange, National Housing Federation).
As well as in an advisory capacity, he has also acted as principal investing in London businesses on behalf of Greater London Enterprise. He thus has first-hand experience of investment processes and management, embracing business strategy and implementation and succession planning, where robust and deliverable business plans are essential.
He has acted as an expert witness with High Court experience in a variety of commercial disputes and professional negligence cases in particular relating to corporate finance, due diligence, valuations and audit work. He is a qualified mediator and has undertaken expert determinations primarily on behalf of the ICAEW (eg disputes relating to earn outs, share valuations, completion accounts).
He has also spoken at seminars and written on valuations, the investment in and the buying and selling of companies in the UK and overseas on behalf of the UK Government.
